HOT OR NOT - LOUD AT LOUDEN

GREETINGS FROM SW OKLAHOMA:

WELL WELL, ANOTHER GREAT RACE WITH QUITE A BIT OF EXCITEMENT AND EVEN A FEW GREAT EXAMPLES OF GOOD, CLEAN, HARD RACING. OF COURSE WE DID HAVE A FEW EXAMPLES OF DUMMYNESS ALSO BUT I GUESS THAT IS TO BE EXPECTED. HERE IS HOW I SAW THE RACE AND I HOPE THAT YOU MORE OR LESS SAW IT THE SAME WAY.

NOT:

1. ROUSCH-FENWAY RACING: HOW DO THEY EXPECT ANY OF THEIR TEAMS OR DRIVERS ARE GONNA BE A WINNER IF THEY KEEP PLAYING MUSICAL CREW CHIEFS? I GUESS I COULD BE WRONG BUT I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THE DRIVERS ARE OK WITH ALL THAT CRAP, BUT I GUESS THERE ISN'T MUCH THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT.

2. START & PARK THIEVES: 7 CARS OUT BEFORE HALF WAY IN THE RACE, AND I DON'T REMEMBER A WRECK. I REALIZE THEY ONLY DRIVE THE CARS, BUT I WOULD HATE TO SHOW MY FACE IN THE GARAGE, WITH WHAT THEY ARE PULLING. I HAVE TO FEEL THAT AT SOME POINT PRIDE HAS TO COME INTO PLAY, BUT I AM NOT SURE WHEN THAT IS GOING TO BE.

3. KASEY KAHNE: TALK ABOUT START AND STOP, OR MAYBE I SHOULD JUST CALL IT UP & DOWN. THIS KID REALLY DESERVES BETTER THEN WHAT HE IS GETTING. IT'S KIND OF LIKE BUILDING UP A LITTLE KID'S HOPES THEN DASHING THEM RIGHT AT THE HIGHEST POINT. I KNOW KASEY HAS TO BE SO WISHING FOR THIS SEASON TO BE OVER WITH.

4. REED SORENSEN: DON'T THINK THERE WAS ANY CALL FOR THE PAYBACK, EVEN THOUGH IT TICKLED ME TO SEE JUAN SPINNING LIKE A TOP. REED NEEDS TO PRACTICE STAYING ON THE LEAD LAP THEN WORK ON THE PAYBACK THING.

5. CARL EDWARDS: THE DUCK CAN'T GET NO LUCK THIS SEASON, I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS THE DRIVER, THE TEAM, OR THE ORGANIZATION, BUT SOMETHING IS REALLY WRONG IN THAT CAMP AND UNTIL IT WORKS THRU, CARL IS JUST GONNA LOOK LIKE A COOKED GOOSE RATHER THEN A MIGHT DUCK.

HOT:

5. KEVIN HARVICK: KEVIN IS STILL MAKING PEOPLE SCRATCH THEIR HEADS ABOUT HOW HE IS STAYING IN THE LEAD, BUT I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT. HE HAS BEEN TAKING LESSONS FROM MARK MARTIN, AND THE TORTISE, FROM TORTISE AND THE HARE , SLOW AND STEADY IS THE KEY TO CONTINUED SUCCESS.

4. JEFF GORDON: JEFF MAY HAVE BEEN TAKING THE SAME LESSONS. I THINK HE HAS DECIDED THAT SOMETIMES PUSHING, PUSHING, PUSHING ISN'T THE BEST ANSWER. SOMETIMES TAKING WHAT YOU CAN GET WITH NO HASSLE IS THE BEST ANSWER AND HE SEEMS COMFORTABLE WITH THAT.

3. KURT BUSCH: I DO BELIEVE THAT THE ADDITION OF STEVE ADDINGTON TO THE 2 CAR'S CREW HAS BROUGHT MORE THEN ANYONE EXPECTED. I DO THINK IT HAS ADDED TO KURT'S GROWTH BOTH AS A MAN AND AS A DRIVER. KURT DROVE A GREAT REACE AND PUT ON A GREAT CLASS ON THE PROPER METHOD OF BUMP AND RUN. I STILL THINK KURT WILL BE ONE TO RECKON WITH BEFORE IT IS ALL OVER.

2. TONY STEWART: TONY SEEMED TO HAVE MORE LITTLE PROBLEMS YESTERDAY THEN CUSTER HAD INDIANS, BUT WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARED, TONY WAS SITTING PRETTY. TONY'S CREW IS MOST LIKELY THE SECOND BEST "FIX UP AND CATCH UP" CREW GOING RIGHT NOW, AND THAT FACT IS GONNA PAY BENNIES BEFORE THE SEASON IS OVER.

1. JIMMIE JOHNSON: THERE IS AN OLD SONG ABOUT DALE EARNHARDT, WHERE IT TALKS ABOUT HIM GETTING SENT TO THE BACK OF THE PACK FOR A ROUGH DRIVING CALL, HIS ANSWER IS " WE ARE DOWN, BUT WE'RE COMING BACK" THIS BEST DESCRIBES THE 48 TESM RIGHT NOW, JIMMIE AND MATES ARE THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THE "NEVER SAY DIE" ATTITUDE. I DIDN'T THINK THERE WAS MUCH CHANCE OF A FIVE'ER, BUT NOW I AM STARTING TO CHANGE MY MIND.

A TIP OF MY HAT HAS TO GO OUT TO RYAN NEWMAN, CLINT BOWYER AND DALE JR. THE LAST 10 LAPS OF THE RACE BETWEEN THESE 3 WAS SOME OF THE BEST I HAVE SEEN IN A WHILE.

THIS IS HOW I SAW THE RACE AND I HOPE MOST OF YOU AGREE OR AT LEAST SEE WHERE I AM COMING FROM. IF NOT CHIME IN AND LET US KNOW.

THAT'S MY OPINION - WHAT'S YOURS

  1. Mr. Gunaquat...

I'd like to hear your take on Jeff Burton. Do you think it was his call to stay on the track there at the end or was it his crew chief? I've gotta believe it was Jeff's call and look what it got him. I wonder how he felt after passing the pit entrance and seeing everybody else turning in. I'll bet it was a sinking feeling. Then, wouldn't ya know it, he not only loses control of his car running on spent tires, but he takes out the same guy he yelled at a couple of weeks earlier... And in retrospect Kyle Busch wasn't at fault the first time either... Go figure.

Burton out of all of 'em oughta be in the NOT column!

Hold on tight next Saturday. I think we'll see a re-invigorated Dale Earnhardt Jr. running his dad's number 3 for the first time. He's been wanting to do this all his life. Here's hoping for the best. It may mean another career move down the road if he does well...

And BTW, I just figured out how to feed your fish! They're really hungry!

    Thanks alot!

YEAH I THINK YOU ARE TOTALLY RIGHT ABOUT JEFF. DOES THE WORD SHEEPISH SPRING TO MIND. BUT I AM WONDERING IF HE WAS WORRIED THAT WITH WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO HIM THE LAST FEW WEEKS MAYBE IN THE FRONT WASN'T THE SAFEST PLACE FOR HIM. GUESS THAT DIDN'T WORK OUT TO WELL EITHER.

  3. Hey GUNNY - missed your H/N opinions re: Sonoma. Do hope you have time to go back and read about all our adventures! =)

I'll agree with Dwindy and stick Burton on the NOT list- you can just lump Carl in with Roush entry and stick the 31 in the last slot! hehehehee

Otherwise, I was happy with Kurt and Jr both having a good race!

  4. Gunny:

I rate a race on how quickly I start to snooze. This one was a snooze fest from start to finish. Then JJ wins. Sorry I woke up on the last lap to see him win.

  5. Gunaquat,

LOVE your call on the start and parkers!! They're STEALING money from NASCAR! Once Bobby Labonte realized that the 71 team was a start and park team, he got out of there. At least he HAS some pride left. I'd like to know what Reed Sorenson was thinking when he took out his ex-Ganassi teammate JPM.

  9. Gunny, With the exception of Jimmie winning again (Bad Thing), the race was not too bad. I actually watched some of it this time, without having to record it. LOL Normally I record the races so I can go back and rewatch them. Because I usually get tied up with the computer. But since TNT has their free racebuddy, I watch it on the computer and I actually get to see more of the race.

I think Stewart is going to have to make some changes in his pit crew before they start being a more consistent team week in and week out. They are just making far too many mistakes.

But there again it is fun watching Smoke come through the field from the back. But he can't keep doing that every week. Or they will never win.

Should be interesting to see Jr. in the 3 car this weekend in the Nationwide race. Maybe he can take it to victory lane.

  10. TS,

I DON'T NORMALLY WATCH TO MANY OF THE NATIONWIDE RACES, BUT I WILL BE GLUED TO THIS ONE.

YOU MIGHT BE VERY RIGHT ABOUT THE CREW CHANGES, BUT YOU GOTTA ADMIT, IT IS VERY PLEASING TO THE EYE TO TO SEE HIM FLOWING LIKE A STREAM THRU THE PACK.
