HOT OR NOT LONG DAY AT LONG POND

GREETINGS FROM SW OKLAHOMA:

THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN UP EARLIER BUT FOR SOME REASON BLOGGER WAS DOWN FOR 5 HOURS SO I JUST HAD TO WAIT. FOLKS, FOR SOME REASON I JUST COULD NOT GET INTO THE RACE YESTERDAY, PLUS DUE TO MY OWN STUBBORNNESS I MISSED THE END OF THE RACE, I HAD SAT A 6:00 TIME TO MEET ANN'S SISTER AND HUSBAND FOR DINNER, THEY WERE LATE GETTING THERE BECAUSE THEY WATCHED THE END OF THE RACE. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT I HAVE NO CLUE EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING ON DURING THE WHOLE RACE.

HAVING SAID ALL OF THAT I FEEL THAT MY BEST BET IS TO HAND OUT A LITTLE PRAISE AND LET IT GO AT THAT.

HOT:

5. KURT BUSCH: KURT SEEMED TO ME TO BE IN AND OUT ALL DAY, THIS MAY HAVE BEEN DUE TO HIS AND ADDINGTON'S CONCERN OVER THE FUEL SAVING THING, BUT IN THE END IT DIDN'T MATTER ALL THAT MUCH. BUT BETWEEN DODGING WRECKS AND STUFF LIKE THAT 6TH ISN'T A BAD DEAL AT ALL AND LET'S FACE IT HE IS STILL MOVING TO THE FRONT.

4. JIMMIE JOHNSON: JIMMIE JUST DIDN'T SEEM TO BEABLE TO GET IN GEAR SO HE USED THE OLD 1 CAR 2 CAR PASSING MODE TO WORK HIS WAY TO A GOOD FINISH. JIMMIE IS SORT OF LIKE A BAD PENNY, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO WITH IT OR HIM, HE JUST KEEPS SHOWING UP AT THE END.

3. TONY STEWART: TONY MAY STILL NOT BE SITTING THE WOODS ON FIRE, BUT HE HAD A PRETTY GOOD CAMPFIRE GOING YESTERDAY. I FELT THAT HE PUT ON A EXCELLENT DEFENSIVE RACING CLASS YESTERDAY, SHOWING HOW TO FORCE OTHER CARS TO DRIVE HIS RACE RATHER THEN BEING ABLE TO DRIVE THEIR OWN. IF HARVICK DOESN'T TAKE OUT LAGANO, TONY HAS SECOND PLACE WRAPPED UP AND ON THE WAY TO THE HOUSE.

2. KYLE BUSCH: I JUST REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THIS KID, BUT HE JUST SHOWS A GROWING MATURITY EVER WEEK, LIKE HIM OR NOT YOU HAVE TO ADMIRE HIS " TAKE NO PRISONERS" ATTITUDE, HIS SINGLE VIEW OF RACING IS "WIN OR GO HOME" IS TOTALLY WHAT RACING IS ALL ABOUT. AND LET'S FACE IT NO ONE IN RACING TODAY IS GOING TO BEAT HIM ON A RESTART 9 TIMES OUT OF 10.

1. DENNY HAMLIN: ANTOHER SUPER RACE FOR HAMLIN, HIS "I WON'T QUIT, AND I WON'T LET DOWN" ATTITUDE HAS SEEMED TO EFFECT EVERYONE ON HIS TEAM. DENNY REALLY REMINDS ME OF THE "LITTLE ENGIN TAHT COULD": WITH ONE EXCEPTION, THE LITTLE ENGIN KEPT SAYING " I THINK I CAN , I THINK I CAN" AND DENNY SAYS "I KNOW I CAN I KNOW I CAN".

FOLKS I DIDN'T PUT HARVICK ON THEIS FOR 2 REASONS. FIRST I THINK HE TOOK LAGANO OUT ON PURPOSE, WHICH I KNOW IS DEBATABLE, BUT THAT IS MY VIEW AND SECOND BY BRINGING OUT THE CAUTION HE COST STEWART A SECOND PLACE FINISH AND BY FORCING THE GREEN WHITE CHECKER IT LEAD TO THE TEARING UP OF A WHOLE LOT OF CARS.

THIS IS HOW I SAW THE RAACE, OR MAYBE I SHOULD SAY DIDN'T SEE THE RACE, SO IF I MISSED SOMETHING LET US KNOW.

TAHT'S MY OPINION - WHAT'S YOURS

  1. In case you missed it, Harvick wasn't driving Allmendinger's car, A.J. threw the block on Kahne, not Harvick. To blame the wreck on Harvick is stupid. A.J. even apologized for it on ESPN. Logano and Harvick were battling for position late in the race, and things like this happen. If this would've happened on the 5th lap, then there would be no excuse for it. I have or see no problem with Logano trying to "confront" Harvick-thats ok. But to take a jab at Delana is totally uncalled for. Now that Joey made it personal, I don't see it ending anytime soon. Gil Martin even said that Logano sped towards the 29 crew on pit road after the race:http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar/cup/news/story?id=5258177.

It's funny (and sad) how people want to point at Harvick, but a few years ago, when Jr. took out Jeff Burton at Richmond, people turned the other cheek and said "Oh well, thats racing."

  2. Hey Gunaquat!

I can see where you went with this. If(A) didn't happen (the caution caused by Harvick's move on Logano), then (B) would not have happened (Stewart losing position in the restart) or (C) (the multi-car pile up that took several drivers out). You're just, as I've heard others say, calling it as you see it.

Logano had every right to contest his position on the track, just as Harvick did. I don't think much of any driver that simply backs down. Harvick saw an opportunity to move Logano out of the way and he took it. Maybe that was Logano's fault for being in that position, but it was certainly Harvick's fault for taking advantage of it. Luckily, Logano came out of the spin unhurt and was able to save the car. That's how I saw it.

I have to wonder what everyone would be saying if Harvick had been in Logano's position and Kyle Busch made the same move on him. I'm pretty sure there would have been a firestorm aimed at Busch. Instead of the 50-50 reactions I'm seeing concerning who was in the right or wrong between Logano and Harvick.

The name calling on Logano's part was really childish in my book...

    Thanks Gunaquat!

  3. DWINDY,

I AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY, AND I HATE TO ADMIT IT I WOULD MOST LIKEY HAVE BEEN AL OVER BUSCH A FEW WEEKS AGO BUT NOW I AM NOT SURE HOW I WOULD REACT. AND TO TELL THE TRUTH THE HARVICK LAGANO THING ON THE TRACK WAS A TOSS UP THE YIPPING AFTER THE RACE WAS A TOSS UP UNTIL JOEY BROUGHT IN THE WIFE THING, IF AN "I'M SORRY" IS DUE FOR ANYTHING IT IS FOR THAT STATEMENT.

  4. STEVE,

READ WHAT I WROTE, ALL I WAS SAYING IS IF THE CAUTION FROM THE LAGANO - HARVICK THING HAD NOT HAPPENED THERE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A RESTART THEREFORE MOST LIKELY THE WRECK WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. I NEVER SAID HARVICK CAUSED THE WRECK. AND I AGREE WITH YOU ON THE STATEMENT ABOUT THE FIRESUIT WAS UNCALLED FOR AND IN BAD TASTE

  5. While I did see the race from beginning to end, there were moments in which there was some pretty good racing going on. But for the most part it was the basic Pocono.

The incident with Harvick and Logano, I saw as just a racing incident. But I was very proud of Logano for standing his ground with Harvick. Because Logano felt that Harvick did it on purpose. From certain angles it looked intentional. Other camera angles looked like Logano came down on Harvick.

But the little remark that Logano made about Harvick's wife was uncalled for. And I let my disappointment in Logano be known in my own blog about the Pocono race. Hope that you will go read it and let me know what you thank. And I know you will.

As for Stewart with the season that he is having a third place finish was good enough for this team. At least it was a little shot in the arm for them. At least they had a little something to smile about at the race shop this week.

  7. Hey GUNNY - sorry so late to comment!

I'll fill in the Nots for ya...

    1. Tom Logano for just being himself and an instigator! Amazing Joey is as well adjusted as he is.

    2. Mule - The Miller Lite Dodge tire guy who left the valve stem cover off the RF putting us a lap down for most of the race and causing Kurt's head to explode. Truly shocking we were able to use pit strategy to finish 6th

    3. Dinger - for running his lame duck teammate down to the grass.

    4. NASCAR - leaving the orange pylons around the pothole the ENTIRE race - one could argue those cones are a hazard to the racing...duh.

    5. TNT - Phil Parsons - all I have to say to this is WHATEVER! Worst post race interview I have ever seen - asking Harvick if he can fly home in his plane and asking NOTHING about Joey. This guy is a joke and a current owner of cars in the field - he has NO business being a pit road reporter.

    Hows that!?!? LOL

  8. KRIS,

YOU PRETTY WELL "NOT" COVERED IT AND I THANK YOU A TON. HOPEFULLY WON'T HAVE TAHT PROBLEM AGAIN. NOT SURE THEY DON'T NEED TO BAN JOEY'S DADDY FROM THE PITS.

REMINDS ME OF THE FACT TAHT I I STATED MANY TIMES, LITTLE KIDS SPORTS WOULD BE SO MUCH MORE FUN IF WE MADE THE PARENTS STAY AT HOME OR AT LEST IN THE PARKING LOT.
